Comprehensive Behavioral Healthcare Offers FREE Depression Assessments in Honor of American Heart Month

January 26, 2009

Lyndhurst, NJ (January 26, 2009) Can depression break your heart? A broken heart may be hard to mend, but studies show depression can take a real toll on your cardiovascular health. Over the past two decades, research has shown that people who are depressed are at greater risk for developing heart disease than people who aren't, and conversely, people with heart disease are more likely to be depressed.

February is American Heart Month and Comprehensive Behavioral Healthcare, Inc. (CBHCare) invites you to take advantage of free, anonymous online mental health self-assessments. If you are concerned that you or someone you know may be depressed visit https://www.mentalhealthscreening.org/screening/login.asp?keyword=COMPREHENSIVE to take a simple online test. You will receive immediate, customized feedback as well as the opportunity to schedule an appointment for further evaluation if necessary.

Some facts about depression and heart disease:

  • Depression is the estimated leading cause of disability worldwide, and heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States
  • While about one in six people have an episode of major depression, the number goes to one in two for people with heart disease.
  • Depression may make it harder to take the medications needed and to carry out the treatment for heart disease.
  • Most heart patients are not treated for depression
  • Depression may also result in chronically elevated levels of stress hormones, which can have a harmful effect on the heart.

Don't let depression break your heart. Love yourself and the people you care about by identifying the problem before it becomes serious.
